Silver Spring, MD – September
11, 2008
The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association has named the
winners of the 2008 Commitment to Environmental Excellence Awards program that
were reviewed by a panel of judges based on a written narrative covering 10
evaluation criteria and photographs. The contest, sponsored by Concrete
Products magazine, had a record number of entries in 2008. It offers
producers national recognition for outstanding contributions in protecting the
environment and maintaining sound management practice in their operations.
The program salutes companies
that have not only met but surpassed governmental compliance requirements and
demonstrated a commitment to environmental excellence through plant and staff
investment. This year, the contest also provided awards in five categories based
on a plant’s production volume. Eligible plants include NRMCA producer members
located in the U.S., its territories or Canada. The entries were from plants
that clearly incorporated environmental systems into their operation procedures.
In addition to winners and
honorable mentions, judges also selected four plants to be honored as “Comeback
Kid Award” recipients. These are older facilities that have received an “extreme
makeover” to improve environmental capabilities. All plants receiving awards
will be honored at NRMCA’s ConcreteWorks in Nashville this October. Winning
facilities will also be featured in an upcoming edition of Concrete Products
magazine.
