Gary M. Mullings
is the Senior Vice President of Compliance and Operations for
the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association in Silver Spring,
Maryland. He serves as the staff liaison to the Operations,
Environmental & Safety Committee which includes issues
pertaining to fleet and plant operations as well as compliance
issues dealing with environmental and safety. He also
coordinates the Association’s Fleet Benchmarking Program, Driver
of the Year Program, and the Annual Operations, Environmental
and Safety Forum & Expo.
Mr. Mullings has more than 30 years of
service for the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association. For
the majority of his career he has been Manager of the NRMCA
Research Laboratory in College Park, Maryland and is author of
numerous technical papers and trade publication articles. Mr.
Mullings attended the University of Maryland. He is a Certified
Concrete Technologist. He is one of the principal instructors
for the NRMCA Technical Short Course on Concrete and Aggregates,
NRMCA Safety Course, NRMCA Dispatcher’s Forum and has been one
of the primary developers of NRMCA’s Plant Manager Certification
Program .
He is a member of the American Standards of
Testing Materials (ASTM) and is the chairman of the Concrete
Density Task Group. He is also a member of the American Concrete
Institute (ACI), the National Safety Council, and the ATA
Maintenance Council. Mr. Mullings has also been a frequent
speaker for numerous state DOT and association meetings.

David Ayers is
the Managing Director of Compliance and Safety and a certified
safety professional and certified hazard materials manager,
joined NRMCA in 2007 after seven years with National
Semiconductor, most recently as facilities and environmental,
health and safety manager.
In addition to
his experience at National Semiconductor, Ayers served as
environmental, health and safety manager of Delta Chemical Corp.
and Grant Geophysical. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in
geography and a Master of Science in safety management from West
Virginia University. He has also earned an MS in environmental
management from the University of Maryland.
Ayers works closely with NRMCA’s team of
professionals responsible for the often overlapping areas of
government affairs, engineering, codes and standards, and
education and training.

Karen Bean is
the Engineering and Operations Coordinator. She supports the
engineering department and maintains the technical library. She
does plant and truck certifications as well as the Green-Star
certification program. She also supports the NRMCA Concrete
Technology Training and Certification (Short Course). She
supports the NRMCA Annual ConcreteWorks Forum and Expo, the
Research, Engineering and Standards (RES) Committee, and the
Operations, Environmental and Safety (OES) Committee.
